Easy Hot Chocolate Recipe - Dairy Free and Gluten Free

Updated: Oct 16, 2022

It's that time again here in Australia. Winter. I have a bit of a love hate relationship with the season.

I will take feeling hot over cold any day of the week. But, here in Adelaide, it can get pretty darn cold so I think the best we can do is make the most of it.

For me, Winter means snuggling up on the couch with my Mum's homemade crochet blankets and drinking Hot Chocolate. I wish I could say by the fireplace, but we don't have one ;)

So I thought I'd share with you my super healthy and easy hot choccy recipe. It is one of those recipes that is so delicious, you think “Surely this can't be healthy”. But. It is. Winning am I right?

It can easily be made to be dairy free just by choosing your fave plant based milk. And because you know exactly what is going in your hot chocolate, you can be rest assured it is also Gluten Free.

This scrummy recipe calls for

Plant Based Milk of your choice - Almond Milk, Cashew Milk, Soy Milk etc.

Cacao Powder

Honey

Vanilla Extract (I make my own with Vodka and Vanilla Bean as it's much healthier than the bought varieties which have lots of ingredients that aren't really needed)

Coconut Oil

Saucepan Method

For 1 Serve, heat a Cup of milk in a saucepan until steaming but not boiling.

Stir in a tablespoon of cacao, a teaspoon of honey, half a teaspoon of vanilla extract and 2 teaspoons of coconut oil.

Continue stirring until all ingredients are combined.

Serve immediately and enjoy.

Thermomix Method

If you have a Thermomix, place the above ingredients in your Thermo and heat to 80 degrees on setting 1 for 3 minutes. Blend for a creamy hot chocolate.

Note: You can easily double the recipe.
