DIY Lash and Brow Growth Serum

Support your lashes and brows while your body heals from the inside with celiac disease.

When most people talk about hair loss after a celiac diagnosis, they’re usually thinking about the hair on their head. But if you’ve noticed your eyelashes looking sparse or your eyebrows thinning out, it’s something I hear about all the time. It’s not just frustrating... it’s one more thing on a long list of unexpected symptoms.

These delicate hairs are especially sensitive to

  • Nutrient deficiencies (like zinc, B vitamins, and iron)

  • Ongoing stress

  • Chronic inflammation

And just like your gut needs support to heal, your lashes and brows deserve a little extra care too.

Now, I’ll be honest... I was already starting from behind. I was a victim of the heavily plucked 90’s brows. I've had my brows tattooed multiple times and spent hundreds on growth serums. So, I decided to start making my own.

This nourishing DIY serum is a simple, non-toxic way to support healthy hair regrowth, give your face a boost of natural beauty, and make you feel a little more like you again. Plus, it’s incredibly easy to make.

And of course, be sure to focus on what's going on internally to sort out any deficiencies that could be affecting your hair growth. Read article here.

You Will Need

  • 1 tsp castor oil – Rich in ricinoleic acid to stimulate and strengthen hair growth

  • 1 tsp sweet almond oil – Moisturises and protects fragile hair

  • 1 tsp fractionated coconut oil – Conditions and hydrates

  • 1/2 tsp vitamin E oil – An antioxidant powerhouse that supports repair

  • Optional for Brows Only

If you're using the serum for eyebrows only, you can also add

    • 1 drop rosemary essential oil – Encourages circulation to the follicle

    • 1 drop lavender essential oil – Stimulates blood flow and boosts growth

Note: Essential oils are not recommended near the lash line. Skip them if you plan to use this serum on your eyelashes.

How to Make It

  1. Add all ingredients to a clean roller bottle or reusable mascara tube.

  2. Shake well before each use.

  3. Store in a cool, dry place. Shelf life is about 3–6 months.

How to Use

  • Apply a small amount nightly to clean lashes and brows prior to any skincare.

  • Use a clean mascara wand or cotton tip to gently apply along the lash line and over your brows.

  • Avoid getting it in your eyes.

  • Be consistent - daily use over 4–6 weeks will give the best results.

Pro Tips

  • Remove contact lenses before applying.

  • If you're sensitive, patch test first using on your arm.

  • You can also massage a drop into your scalp around the temples if you're seeing thinning hair in that area too.
